Project Prompt: “Create a set of graphic instructions or wordless diagrams for a simple everyday task”; limited to only using shades of black & red in the final graphics/illustrations.
I know this isn’t really an “everyday task” but at the time it felt like that for me and other struggling film students. I had already earned all the credits towards my film degree by the time I took this design class my 5th year but I had recently voluneteered at a student film show on campus where I had to load and unload a bunch of student films and I had already forgotten how to do it by then. So I figured ‘not only will this be helpful for me in the future when I forget how to do this again, but I’m sure if this was shared with the other film students, they would also very much appreciate it.’
As the instructions move along chronologically on the right page, the pink line representing the film strip in the illustration on the left page shows what the film strip’s path in the projector should be at that point. Also on left page, the specific mechanism for that step has a heavier line weight to make it easier to follow along and double check.
